A Story of Love, Hope, & Suffering from Four Good Men Lost

Rather than the classic ’90s rom-com Four Weddings and a Funeral, part of my story is a tragic bromance: Four Funerals and a Wedding. Losing my brother and three close friends to suicide has profoundly shaped my work, influencing almost everything I do, and reminding me that wellbeing isn’t optional - it’s essential.

All four were good men. All four were OK. Unlike the great Australian charity RUOK?, UROK turns the focus inward. Here, you’ll find a snapshot of six life lessons gifted to me by Ben, Rich, Rhys, and Hamish.

Six Life Lessons

Happiness is not a goal, it's a habit

Focus on what brings you happiness today – don’t wait for “I’ll be happy when __________.”

It's good to talk, but better to listen

Growing up in the ’80s, we talked a lot of sh#t - if we’d gone deeper, we’d have been happier.

Rhys.jpg

Trust in Allah, but tie your camel

Lead with goodwill and faith but balance it with a touch of pragmatism.

Ben1.jpg

A conversation can change a life

Language has the power to connect us and carry us through life's challenges.

Ben2.jpg

What stands in the way becomes the way

No matter the card you've been dealt, there is always an opportunity in the obstacle.

Lead with love & kindness

Long after the trophies gather dust, it’s how you made people feel that will be remembered.
